Delete data#
This task is the responsibility of Trusted Research Environments Service Area (TRESA).
At the end of a project involving a TRE, after confirmation that any outputs have been downloaded by the authorised egress contact (see Perform data egress), the data should be deleted in a timely fashion.
Upon tearing down the TRE infrastructure (see Teardown TRE), the data will persist within the Azure Storage Account that was created when the TRE was deployed. This includes both the original project data uploaded via ingress and the project outputs.
Warning
Deleting data from a Microsoft Azure Storage Account is irreversible
Make sure that Perform data egress is complete before performing this step
You can delete the data by deleting the Azure Storage Account itself. This can be found via the Azure Portal and will be named something like<shm id><sre id>data<hash string>
, for example prod4sandboxdatanrzabxpjid
.
Once you have found the storage account, navigate to “Locks” on the left and delete the lock
Click “Overview” on the left and should now be able to click the “Delete” icon at the top
